Pharmacist Assistant Courses In South Africa | Pharmacy assistants help pharmacists order, prepare and dispense medicines at the pharmacy.

Pharmacy assistant works alongside licensed pharmacists and pharmacist technicians to help process prescriptions. 

Assistants’ duties are typically clerical and organizational in nature and might include answering phones, filling out and filing paperwork, running cash registers and stocking shelves. 

To operate as a pharmacist assistant, one needs to go through the necessary training by studying the needed courses.

Requirements: The requirements for registering National Certificate: Pharmacist assistant basic are as follows:

  • Minimum grade 10 (standard 8)( pass in Maths and English with 50% and above
  • Have to be employed in a Hospital / Clinic pharmacy or have a Pharmacy Workplace that you will spend the rest of your training (1 year or above)
  •  Council Approved Tutor and
  •  Council Approved Training premises

2. National Certificate Pharmacist Assistance

This training programme leads to a national qualification as a Pharmacist Assistant (Basic), NQF level 3 in the SAQA Field: Health Sciences and Social Services, and SAQA Subfield: Preventative, Curative, Promotive and Developmental and Health Services. Health Science Academy offers training in all four sectors of pharmacy: community, hospital/institutional, manufacturing and wholesale/distribution. The South African Pharmacy Council has approved the course and has accredited Health Science Academy as a provider of education and training.

3. Further Education and Training: Pharmacist’s Assistance

This training programme leads to a national qualification as a Pharmacist Assistant (Post Basic), NQF level 4 in the SAQA Field: Health Sciences and Social Services, and SAQA Subfield: Preventative, Curative, Promotive and Developmental and Health Services. Health Science Academy offers training in the community and hospital/institutional sectors. The South African Pharmacy Council has approved the course and has accredited Health Science Academy as a provider of education and training.

4. ADVANCED CERTIFICATE: PHARMACY TECHNICAL SUPPORT  (NQF LEVEL 6) [NMU]

5. HIGHER CERTIFICATE: PHARMACY SUPPORT  (NQF LEVEL 5) [NMU]

6. CERTIFICATE OF QUALIFICATION: PHARMACIST’S ASSISTANT BASIC (NQF 3) AND POST-BASIC (NQF 4)
